Er absolvierte die European Nyckelharpa Training und arbeitete mit Marco Ambrosini, Didier François, Annette Osann, Jule Bauer, Olena Yeremenko, Ditte Andersson, Magnus Holmström, Emilia Amper, Olov Johansson und Markus Svensson zusammen. Er war Teilnehmer des ENCORE-Projekts – European Nyckelharpa Cooperation – Orchestral Experience. (https://www.nyckelharpa.eu/encore/). Im Laufe der Jahre hat er die Nyckelharpa in verschiedenen Kontexten und Projekten gespielt. Zu seinen Interessengebieten zählen Alte Musik, Volksmusik und die Erforschung erweiterter Spieltechniken.  Er ist Gründungsmitglied des Ensemble Med (mittelalterlich; mediterran), EuropAntiqua (Nyckelharpa-Ensemble) und João Martins & Sérgio Calisto (Drehleier- und Nyckelharpa-Duo).

Sérgio Calisto is a freelance musician from Portugal. He holds a master’s degree in music teaching (cello) from the Universidade de Aveiro and works actively as a cello and nyckelharpa teacher and performer.
He completed the European Nyckelharpa Training, having worked with Marco Ambrosini, Didier François, Annette Osann, Jule Bauer, Olena Yeremenko, Ditte Andersson, Magnus Holmström, Emilia Amper, Olov Johansson, and Markus Svensson. Over the years, he has performed the nyckelharpa in different contexts and projects, and some of his areas of interest are early music, folk music, and the exploration of extended techniques. 
He is a founding member of Ensemble Med (medieval; mediterranean), EuropAntiqua (nyckelharpa ensemble), and João Martins & Sérgio Calisto (hurdy-gurdy and nyckelharpa duo).
